January Card Sketch Challenge

SSINKC#41: Happy Birthday

Here is this month’s template:

I decided to create a Birthday card for a special friend using some of the new SU stamp sets. I used Pacific Point cardstock for the card base and made a circle with one of the new papers from the Party Animal DSP.  I just love the new Star Blast die set.  I made a banner with the Star Blast cut out on the top using Crushed Curry as a complementary color. I selected the “It’s Your Birthday” from the Balloon Adventures stamp set and centered the words on a piece of Pacific Point cardstock cut out with the Layering Oval Framelits Die. I added some rhinestones inside each of the stars.   I hope you like my design.

June Blog Hop

Welcome to our June Blog Hop

To celebrate the new 2015-2016 annual catalog from Stampin’ Up, we decided to focus this month’s blog hop on Something New and Something Old.

I created this card with the By the Tides stamp set.   I used the new 2015-2017 in color – Tip Toe Taupe for stamping the sea-horse.  The ferns were stamped using Real Red.  I used Pacific Point to stamp both of the fish.  For the background mats I used Real Red, Pacific Point, and Whisper White card stock.  The greeting was stamped in Coastal Cabana.

Mascline Cards

The card below was made using the Celebrate Today stamp set, I used the star embossing folder for the background and colored them in with the 2015-2017 in color -Delightful Dijon.  I really like using these images and color combinations to create a more masculine card.  My husband, son, brother, and nephew all had birthdays in May so I was able to put these cards to good use.  Both of these stamp sets are in last year’s and in the new annual catalog so it’s not to late to order them. 🙂

Balloon Birthday

In preparation for Father’s Day.  I used the Wetlands stamp set. The stamp set is also featured in the new annual catalog.  The new aspect of this card is a new technique that I’ve learned called Bokeh.  I used a dauber starting with the darkest color (Pacific Point) and just made a series of random circles on the paper.  Then I used the medium blue (Tempting Turquoise) and purposely overlapped some of the original circles.  I followed that with a lighter blue (Sky Blue) and again made sure to overlap some the lighter circles with some of the darker circles.  Finally, I used Whisper White and made a few highlights to brighten some of the darker areas.  I also used a dauber to ink the sides of my second and third layers to make a border.  I have resisted inking the borders in the past but I really liked the effect it made on this card.

Happy Father's Day

Birthday Celebrations

I just love birthday celebrations!  A number of friends and family have birthdays in March so it is the perfect month to focus on making some birthday cards.

Cake 1

I designed the cover of this birthday card using new products from the SU Occasions catalog and the Sale-A-Brations brochure.   The background designer paper is from the Birthday Bash paper pack and I love the multiple colors in the design.  I decided to use the deco label framelits in the Daffodil Delight paper.  The stamp set is displayed in the Sale-A-Brations handout and got it for free with my $50 product order.  I really like the stamp set because there are a number of stamps that you can use together or separately which gives me lots of flexibility.  I wanted to highlight the cake and the “celebrate banner” so I used dimensionals to make them stand out.

Cake 2

I watched a video by Dawn Olchefske and I learned how to make three cuts on the inside of the card.   The cuts allow parts of the card to pop out which I decorated with different papers to look like gifts and  I put a custom-made bow on the top.  You have to have gifts at any birthday celebration, right?

Materials Used to Make This Card:

Stamps: SAB Big Day

Punches: 2″ Circle and Bow Maker

Framelits: Deco Labels Collection

Markers: Bermuda Bay and Daffodil Delight

Inks: Bermuda Bay and Tangerine Tango

Paper:  Birthday Bash DSP,  Whisper white, Daffodil Delight, Tangerine Tango, Bermuda Bay and Bermuda Bay Designer paper.
